Columbia Shooting Victim Was Son Of Collegiate Football Coach
The man shot and killed off Harpers Farm Road is related to a well-known football figure.
COLUMBIA, MD - The man killed in a shooting in Columbia over the weekend has been identified as the son of a football coach known in Maryland and beyond.
Meiko Anthony Locksley, 25, of Grand Banks Road in Columbia, was pronounced deceased overnight at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, police said Monday morning.
His father is Mike Locksley, the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.

Mike Locksley also worked for the University of Maryland Terrapins from 2012 to 2015, where he was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and ultimately interim head coach.
The Towson University graduate started his career with the Tigers coaching staff as a defensive backs and special teams coach after graduating in 1992.

NBC Sports reports that the coach has three other children, one of whom is a quarterback in Iowa, in addition to the late Meiko Locksley.

In Columbia, the investigation is underway into Meiko Locksley's death.
Officers said they responded to the 5500 block of Harpers Farm Road for a report of a man who had been shot after 10:20 p.m. on Sunday.
A neighbor found him bleeding in the grass outside the Fall River Terrace apartments, according to ABC 2 News.
Several people said they heard one gunshot in the neighborhood, authorities said, before one resident found the victim and dialed 911.
Meiko Locksley reportedly worked at Subway, according to WBAL, which said he was described as a quiet employee who worked hard.
Prior to that, he played football at Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania.

A motive and suspect have not been identified.
