Motorcycle Crash In Columbia Sends One To Shock Trauma: Police
Police said the driver of a passenger car failed to yield Monday night on Quarterstaff Road and hit a motorcyclist in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — A motorcyclist was hospitalized after a crash in Columbia Monday night, according to police. Officials said he was hit because the driver of a passenger car failed to yield.
Stewart Russell Long, 36, of Elkridge, is in serious but stable condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police reported before 9 p.m. on Monday.
Long had been riding his Suzuki motorcycle north on Freetown Road when he was hit by a Kia Sorento going east on Quarterstaff Road at 5:23 p.m., according to officials.

Police said the people in the Kia identified themselves as driver Javier Zambrana, 45, and passenger, Javier Zambrana, 21, both of Laurel. Neither was injured, officials reported, and both remained at the scene.
Quarterstaff Road was closed at Freetown Road until approximately 7:30 p.m., police said.

PREVIOUS REPORT: Authorities are asking drivers to avoid an intersection in Columbia Monday night where a crash investigation is underway. At least one person was injured in the crash, police said.
The intersection of Quarterstaff Road and Freetown Road was closed, police reported after 7 p.m. on Monday.
Officials advised drivers to take alternate routes.
