Driver Dies After Crashing Into Semi Stopped On Route 32: Howard County Police

A Laurel man has died after the pickup he was driving crashed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the travel portion of Route 32.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A 32-year-old Laurel man has died in a collision involving a semi Feb. 19.

According to Howard County Police, at approximately 3:13 a.m., a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado was heading west on Route 32 when, just before reaching Washington Boulevard, it crashed into a 2022 Peterbilt tractor trailer that was stopped in the travel portion of the roadway.

The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet, 32-year-old Dane Thomas Benavidez of Laurel, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured and remained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. Route 32 in the area was closed for approximately four hours.
