East Columbia Library Branch Closed for Renovations
A satellite branch has popped up in the parking lot of one Columbia library where renovations are underway.

COLUMBIA, MD - The East Columbia Branch closed recently for renovations, and an express location has opened in the library's parking lot on Cradlerock Way.
The express branch offers a limited number of public computers, two classrooms, a small collection for browsing and a passport office. There will be some classes for teens and children.
The main building at 6600 Cradlerock Way is expected to be closed until August for updates. Renovations at the East Columbia Branch include the following, according to library officials:

- Lobby and entryway transformation to be more welcoming
- Gathering area including focal piece of artwork in place of research desk
- Tripling meeting room capacity
- Doubling quiet study space
- Teen center with classrooms and collaborative work space
The East Columbia Branch Express, located on-site, opened Jan. 18 and will maintain normal business hours until the reopening of the library. Hours for the express location at 6600 Cradlerock Way are 10 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday to Thursday; 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1–5 p.m. Sunday.
