Maryland's 2014 Primary Election Results: Governor's Race Set

With the Maryland governor's seat up for grabs, the 2014 primary was bound to be eventful, and according to Politico, it was the "ugliest statewide Democratic primary in the country."

In fact, on Tuesday, the Montgomery County Education Association filed suit and asked for a restraining order against gubernatorial candidate Attorney General Doug Gansler for producing handouts resembling the association's "apple ballots" containing information it had not endorsed, according to The Washington Post.

When the Associated Press called the Democratic race around 9:30 p.m., it was Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman who came away with the nomination.

"There's no one better to continue our progress and lead Maryland into the future," Gov. Martin O'Malley said regarding the news of Brown's projected win.

Larry Hogan secured the Republican nomination just before 11 p.m. when Harford County Executive David Craig conceded, according to The Baltimore Sun.

"The politicians who have been responsible for this mess in our state for the last eight years say they deserve another four years because they have been 'Moving Maryland Forward,'" Hogan said in his acceptance speech. "Well, if that's moving Maryland forward, then I say this November, the people of this great state are just going to have to take Maryland back!"
