UPDATE: Glenwood Middle Closed Wednesday After Fire
Fire at Glenwood Middle School led to evacuation, temporary closure, according to Howard County officials.
GLENWOOD, MD — Glenwood Middle School dismissed early Tuesday and will be closed Wednesday after a fire broke out inside the school building, officials reported.
Glenwood Middle students were dismissed at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a report from the Howard County Public School System.
Students from Glenwood Middle School were evacuated and taken to Bushy Park Elementary School, where they were served lunch while crews investigated a fire at their school.

The fire was reported before noon and was contained to an electrical panel in the boiler room, according to Howard County emergency personnel.
Fire and rescue crews asked BGE to shut off power during the investigation, and the blaze was declared out by 12:45 p.m., fire officials reported.

Amid the emergency response, MD 97 was closed between Carrs Mill Road and Burntwoods Road, and the State Highway Administration was asked to help divert traffic.
Parents picking up their Glenwood students at Bushy Park Elementary School were advised to use Carrs Mill Road, and children who took buses boarded them from Bushy Park, the report said.
Tuesday and Wednesday’s afternoon and evening activities at Glenwood Middle School were canceled.
Glenwood Middle School staff were permitted to telework on Wednesday.
