Firefighter Injured Resident Hurt In Mt. Airy Garage Blaze: Official

A firefighter was injured battling a garage blaze Sunday. A resident was hurt in the fire, too, officials reported.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A firefighter was injured Sunday afternoon while battling a garage fire in the 1200 block of Long Corner Road in Mount Airy.

Howard County firefighters were called to the property around 4:30 p.m. They found a detached garage engulfed in flames. The fire had spread to brush behind the building, too, officials said.

A resident was trapped in the garage but escaped before firefighters arrived and was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was injured after a part of the garage fell onto the emergency worker. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Mutual aide was provided by Frederick, Carroll and Montgomery County firefighters. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Office of the Fire Marshal.
