Firefighters Battle Extreme Heat While Fighting House Fire

Two firefighters were evaluated at the scene and one was taken to the hospital due to the heat while battling a house fire Wednesday.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the home, located in the 4800 block of Wellstone Way in Elkridge, for a report of a house fire around 4:20 p.m. Emergency crews found flames shooting out of the home's attached garage and into the attic.

ELKRIDGE, MD — A firefighter was taken to the hospital and two were evaluated at the scene of a house fire Wednesday afternoon due to the excessive heat.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the home, located in the 4800 block of Wellstone Way in Elkridge, for a report of a house fire around 4:20 p.m.

Emergency crews arrived to find flames shooting out of the home's attached garage that extended into the home's attic.

The emergency call was upgraded to two alarms because of the weather, the fire and rescue department stated.

Approximately 50 firefighters from Howard, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties responded and had the fire under control within 40 minutes.

Paramedics evaluated one of the residents at the scene, as well as two firefighters. Another firefighter was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated, the fire department said.

This incident is being investigated by the DFRS-Office of the Fire Marshal.
