Flood Warning In Effect For Howard County

BREAKING: The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for part of Howard County on Friday.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A flood warning is in effect for part of Howard County, according to the National Weather Service. Officials said they issued the warning around 12:30 p.m. after radar showed thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain in southeastern Howard County.

The flood warning is in effect until 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.

Up to 2 inches of rain had already fallen by 12:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, which warned that 1 to 2 inches of additional rainfall were expected by 1:30 p.m.

Areas that may experience flooding are as follows, according to the flood warning:

  • Columbia
  • Elkridge
  • Savage-Guilford
  • Scaggsville
  • Ilchester
  • Burtonsville
  • Jessup
  • Savage
  • Fulton
  • Hanover
  • Simpsonville

During a flood warning, flooding is imminent or occurring. Drivers should turn around if they come across flooded roads, and pedestrians should not attempt to walk through flood waters.

A flash flood watch remains in effect until midnight.
