Footage From Fatal Police-Involved Crash Released
Footage from a Jan. 17 crash in which a teen driver crashed into a wooded area and died after her car burst into flames has been released.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General today released the body-worn camera footage from the fatal police-involved collision involving the Howard County Police Department that happened Jan. 17 in Columbia.
The incident happened around 1:50 a.m. when a Howard County police officer in an unmarked cruise was conducting traffic enforcement on Rt. 29 (Columbia Pike) near Johns Hopkins Road. The officer reported that he saw a Honda sedan speeding northbound on Rt. 29. The officer followed the car and caught up to the Honda as it was exiting onto eastbound Rt. 32 (Patuxent Freeway).
As the officer was traveling eastbound on Rt. 32, the officer activated his emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop. The Honda did not stop and attempted to take the exit ramp from Rt. 32 onto Broken Land Parkway, where it immediately crashed into a wooded area and caught on fire, according to the police department.

Officers attempted to put the fire out until Howard County Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene. The juvenile driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the girl killed in the crash has been withheld in accordance with privacy laws, the attorney general's office stated.
