Footpath Assault, Garage Door Break-In Attempt: Columbia Crime

A robbery that started with someone asking for a dollar was among the recent crimes in Columbia, police said.

COLUMBIA, MD — The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent incidents in Columbia.

There was an attempted break-in at a home in the 6900 block of Bendbough Court. The suspect(s) tried to break the garage door to get inside, but the effort was unsuccessful. The attempted burglary was reported at 12:13 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2.

A laptop was stolen from a vehicle in the 5100 block of Columbia Road at 1:03 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30.

A man was assaulted on a footpath in the 5400 block of Harpers Farm Road. At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, the man was walking on a footpath when a man asked him for a dollar, then assaulted him before running away. Nothing was stolen, and there were no serious injuries.

Two guns were stolen from a Highland residence in the 8000 block of Browns Bridge Road. The burglary occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. The burglary occurred through a side door that was kicked in.
