FULTON, MD ā Want your Thanksgiving bird to have been overseen by a Ph.D.? At Maple Lawn Turkey Farm, members of the flock are under the care of a Ph.D. nutritionist throughout their lives.
Turkeys at Maple Lawn have the run of large barns, inside and out, at a farm off Scaggsville Road. They are free of antibiotics and eat a vegetarian diet of mostly corn and soybeans. The birds run from 10 to 40 pounds and are $2.30 a pound for fresh turkey.
The most common review is "the best turkey I have ever had."

Those picking up their turkeys should expect to wait in line if it's the day or two before Thanksgiving, according to Yelp reviewers. The farm management suggests picking up on Monday to avoid the rush.
People can also buy Maple Lawn turkeys at MOM's Organic Market, but they must place their orders in advance through the store.

David's Natural Market also sells Maple Lawn turkeys and takes orders over the phone or in stores; the Columbia store is at 5410 Lynx Lane and 410-730-2304.
Directly through the farm, Maple Lawn Turkey Farm is taking orders until Nov. 19. People can place orders online, by calling 301-725-2074 or by emailing a request to maplelawnturkeys@comcast.net.
