Gunshot Victim Dies After Columbia Drug Deal Goes Awry: Police

A 19-year-old gunshot victim has died from the injuries he suffered during a drug deal in Columbia, Howard County police report.

COLUMBIA, MD — One of the victims in an Oct. 7 shooting that transpired in Columbia has died. Howard County police officers were notified Oct. 11 that D'Marni Ware, 19, had passed away due to the injuries he sustained. A second victim, Jaiden Marquise Pender, 18, was treated at the hospital and released.

During the course of their investigation, police believe the two men met Tyquan Leondre Carter, 20, of Columbia to complete a drug deal. A fight broke out, officers stated, and the suspect shot both victims before taking off.

On Oct. 8, police arrested Carter and charged him with attempted first-degree murder. With Ware’s death, detectives will coordinate with the Howard County state’s attorney’s office to address appropriate additional charges. Carter is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on no bond.
