HC DrugFree Collects Record Amount Of Medications In Columbia

HC DrugFree​ collected a "record-breaking" amount of unwanted prescriptions and OTC medications on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — HC DrugFree collected a "record-breaking" 1,262 pounds of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Oct. 26. HC DrugFree, a nonprofit, collected the medicine at the Wilde Lake Village Center in Columbia. A record number of sharps were collected, too, the organization reported on its website.

In April, 993 pounds of medication was collected in four hours during a similar collection event, along with 20 bins of sharps (needles, syringes and EpiPens). Howard County has four permanent medication disposal boxes for pills only that are accessible daily:

  • Northern Police District Station, 3410 Courthouse Drive, Ellicott City
  • Southern District Station, 11226 Scaggsville Road, Laurel
  • Gary Arthur Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville
  • Community Outreach Building, 10741 Little Patuxent Parkway
