HCC Encourages Students To Register To Vote

With the election just a month away, Howard Community College encourages each and every student to become active members of society by registering to vote and turning out on election day. Here are five steps to ensure that you are ready for November 3, 2020.

Are you registered to vote? The deadline to register for the General Election is October 13, 2020. You can also register onsite on election day, but you must bring the required documentation to receive a provisional ballot. Visit the Maryland State Board of Elections website to confirm that you are registered to vote and your information is accurate.

Have you requested your mail-in ballot? If you are going to vote by mail, it is important to request your mail-in ballot as soon as possible. The deadline is October 20, 2020. You can request a mail-in ballot in a variety of ways:

Howard County residents can contact the Howard County Board of Elections at 410-313-5820 or mail Howard County Board of Elections, 9770 Patuxent Woods Dr., Suite 200, Columbia, MD 21046.

NOTE: If you are going to request your mail-in ballot by mailing the Howard County Board of Elections, do not wait until October 20 to mail your request. The Board of Elections office needs to receive your request on or before October 20.

Vote early! Early voting is from October 26 – November 2, 2020 from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. at select locations. If you request a mail-in ballot, make sure that you fill out the ballot correctly and sign the back of the ballot envelop or it will not be counted. A list of the names and addresses of Early Voting Centers in Howard County can be found on the Howard County Government website.

Or, if you would like to vote in person on election day, find a designated voting center. Centers are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Howard County registered voters can vote at any center on November 3. A list of voting centers in Howard County can be found here.

Make sure your vote was counted! After you have voted, you can confirm the status of your ballot by going to the Maryland State Board of Elections website or calling 1-800-222-8683.
