The Baltimore Sun recently published an article on Howard Community College’s preparations for teaching classes three ways this fall: hybrid, scheduled remote, and flexible online. With a classes starting August 22, HCC is ready to virtually welcome students back.
Howard Community College has been offering online classes for years. When it came time to convert all of the college’s courses to an online format, HCC already had the infrastructure needed for a seamless transition. For fall, students will benefit from faculty who have the expertise to deliver quality instruction, no matter how classes are offered – online, in-person, or through Zoom.

This fall HCC will offer a blended learning environment with three different formats:
- Hybrid: Learn both in person and online; these are courses that have been approved for some amount of face-to-face interaction on campus.
- Scheduled remote: Meet at designated times in an online classroom; these courses will meet via Zoom, in real time, and at the times listed in the class schedule.
- Flexible online: Study on your own time; these courses may or may not use Zoom, and recorded lectures are posted for students to watch on their own time. These courses still have due dates.
HCC recognizes the many challenges students are facing in today’s climate and provides several resources like financial aid and other funding to help pay for college, loaner laptops and technology support to ensure access to classes, tutoring for academic support, and even personal counseling. For assistance with financial aid, scholarships, and funds for college, contact financial aid services at finaid@howardcc.edu or visit howardcc.edu/financialaid.
Several offices are now offering limited in-person appointments including admissions and advising, and the testing center for anyone who is having technology challenges or needs accommodations. Learn more about HCC’s student services.
Whether remote or in person, our mission remains the same… providing pathways to success.
