HCPSS Facilities Open For Public Use, Sports Summer Conditioning

Outdoor fields at all other Howard County elementary and middle schools will open for county-sponsored outdoor summer programs on July 13.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Together with the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks, the Howard County Public School System will gradually reopen school facilities for school system use and Howard County-sponsored programs during the summer, while continuing to ensure compliance with CDC and health department guidance. The gradual reopening schedule provides for maximum flexibility to assure facilities will be available for instructional use once school resumes in the fall of 2020.

  • Howard County-sponsored camps will be held July 6–Aug. 14 at nine schools:
    • Bushy Park Elementary School
    • Elkridge Elementary School
    • Forest Ridge Elementary School
    • Fulton Elementary School
    • Hanover Hills Elementary School
    • Hollifield Elementary School
    • Veterans Elementary School
    • Lime Kiln Middle School
    • Thomas Viaduct Middle School
  • Special Education and Gifted/Talented assessments will be held at six locations July 15–Aug. 14:
    • Bollman Bridge Elementary School
    • Longfellow Elementary School
    • Stevens Forest Elementary School
    • Veterans Elementary School
    • Mayfield Woods Middle School
    • Old Cedar Lane facility
  • Outdoor fields at all other elementary and middle schools will open for county-sponsored outdoor summer programs on July 13. Fields are open for general public use at any times when county-sponsored programs are not in session.
  • All 12 high school buildings will be used for summer conditioning programs for student athletes.

All HCPSS other outdoor facilities are open for public use, including school tracks, playgrounds, and tennis and basketball courts. However, the HCPSS is not currently allowing the reserved use of our school facilities by organized groups. The continual uncertainty surrounding when and how schools will reopen requires that HCPSS ensure facilities will be immediately available for student use. HCPSS will continue to reassess future options for community use of facilities, in conjunction with the ongoing planning for school reopening in the fall. All users must maintain proper social distancing at all HCPSS facilities, as determined by county and state guidelines.
