HCPSS Participate In Worldwide Coding Event Dec. 9-13

Students of all ages at Howard County Public Schools will engage in a worldwide coding event the week of Dec. 9.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — In recognition of Computer Science Education Week Dec. 9-13, all schools within the Howard County Public School System will join tens of millions of students around the world to participate in coding activities.

Hour of Code provides students with a fun opportunity to learn more about computer science programs and requires no previous experience in the area. Concepts help nurture creativity and problem-solving skills to help prepare students for any future career.

HCPSS instructional technology and career and technical education offices are working with school staff to create opportunities for students at every level to try computer science for at least one hour during the week. Classroom participation will include discussions about Hour of Code and why participation is important, learning and understanding new coding vocabulary words, online coding activities and offline coding activities like robotics and classroom work. Activities at each school will vary.
