HCPSS is using a new color-coding notification system for emergency and non-scheduled school closings including for inclement weather.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD ā As winter weather sweeps across portions of Maryland the Howard County Public School System reminds parents and guardians that the district is using a new color-coding notification system for emergency and non-scheduled school closings including for inclement weather. HCPSS cable TV is no longer a source for inclement weather closing announcements.
The HCPSS operating status will be identified on a new website: https://status.hcpss.org/. The HCPSS operational color code options are:
- Code Green ā Normal Operations (in accordance with the HCPSS calendar)
- Code Red ā Schools and Offices Closed
- Code Orange ā Schools Closed; Offices Open with Liberal Leave in Effect
- Code Blue ā Schools Open Two Hours Late
- Code Yellow ā Schools Dismiss Early
All notifications regarding emergency closings will include both the code and operating status.
