Howard County Citizen's Police Academy Accepting Registrations Through April 26

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Registration for the 2024 Howard County Citizen's Police Academy will be open through April 26.

This free, interactive course gives participants an understanding of what it is like to be a police officer in Howard County. Participants will go through interactive training in several areas similar to a real police academy. The 12-week program is held once a week from 7-9:30 p.m.

Participants will experience:

• Tours of the police department, training center, crime lab and 911 call center
• Courses on traffic laws and enforcement, police use of force, community policing, human trafficking, gang investigations, drug overview and more
• Presentations by the department’s K9 and tactical units
• Interactive firearms training on a firearms simulator and police pursuit and driver training
• Ride-along with a police officer

Participants must:

• Be a Howard County resident
• At least 18 years old
• Have no criminal record
• Commit to attend a minimum of 10 of the 12 sessions to receive a certificate of completion
