HoCo Tropical Storm Warning Over, Areal Flood Warning In Effect
The tropical storm warning has been canceled for southeast and northwest Howard County. The flash flood watch has been canceled, too.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — After leaving hundreds of thousands without power, Tropical Storm Isaias has been tracked moving to the northeast and the accompanying gusty winds and heavy rain over northeastern Maryland should subside within the next hour or two. According to the National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington, the thread of tornadoes also has ended in the region, but flooding remains a concern.
Subsequently, the tropical storm warning has been canceled for southeast and northwest Howard County. The flash flood watch also has been canceled, but the areal flood warning remains in effect, officials noted.
Tropical Storm Isaias hit the mid-Atlantic with tropical storm-force winds and left up to 6 inches of rain so far Tuesday. A tornado spawned by the storm is believed to have killed one person in North Carolina. Packing 70 mph winds, the storm was moving north-northeast at 33 mph after making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, at 11:10 p.m. Monday. More than 314,000 North Carolina residents were without power Tuesday morning, and more than 330,000 Virginians were also experiencing outages as Tropical Storm Isaias moved out of northeastern North Carolina and across Virginia.
