HoCo Whizzes Win Fall Regional Stock Market Game Competition

A team of elementary students from Howard County has won the Fall Stock Market Game Maryland Central Region Elementary School Championship.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A team of students at Pointers Run Elementary School in Howard County drew upon their investing and financial literacy skills to win the Maryland Central Region Elementary School Championship of the Fall Stock Market Game competition, which is organized by the Maryland Council on Economic Education.

The Stock Market Game gives teams of students from across Maryland an imaginary $100,000 to invest during a 10-week on the New York, American and NASDAQ markets. More than 713 teams competed in the Stock Market Game this fall. The four-student team at Pointers Run Elementary increased their portfolio by the largest percentage in the region - approximately 2 percent - to earn the title.

The team used theories and skills taught in classes and was guided by Pointers Run Elementary School educators and advisor Amy Cargiulo. The Pointers Run Elementary School team will be celebrated at the Maryland Council on Economic Education’s Annual Student Achievement and Awards Program to be held later this spring.
