Hot Lawn Mowing Tips!

Three inch grass survival height.

Maintaining proper mower height is one of the most important practices for a healthy lawn. It’s the sheer to your grass as the scissor to your hair.

The tip of the grass blade is similar to most plants. And in the interest of growing thick turf shearing the tip will cause the blade to become more dense - just like hair! Mowing alone does not make grass look good, it is all about the frequency and the critical 3 inch survival height in summer. After it rains the grass may appear excessively tall. In this instance mow at a higher cut and in the next round, return to 3 inches to promote good lawn health.

Height matters: Follow the one-third rule. “Most grasses have a range of recommended mowing heights. Stay at the upper end of that range when the lawn is under stressful conditions, such as hot weather or drought, or if you have a shady lawn. In cooler weather, you can cut the grass a little lower”.

Grasscycling: If the grass is wet, and clippings are heavy, collect with a bag attachment or follow up with a rake. At normal heights, the clippings protect the lawn. Clippings break down quickly. They contain valuable organic matter, necessary nitrogen and reduce the amount of fertilizer needed by up to 25%.

Be proactive when it comes to safety: Stay Safe! Pay attention to children, pets and mower adjustments while your mower is running. Thousands of people become an injury statistic from basic lack of attention and proper care.
