2 Displaced By House Fire Near Columbia: HoCo Fire And Rescue

Neighbors notified authorities about the townhouse fire Friday afternoon, officials reported.

COLUMBIA, MD (UPDATED) — Two residents were being assisted by the Red Cross Friday after a fire broke out at their Columbia area home, officials said.

Crews responded to a house fire in the 9600 block of Hastings Drive at approximately 1 p.m., according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. Neighbors alerted authorities to the fire.

Crews arrived to find smoke showing, with fire on the first and second floors of the townhouse.

Authorities said nobody was inside the home, located off Guilford Road, and the fire did not extend beyond the original house.

As of approximately 1:15 p.m., the blaze was under control.

Firefighters were reportedly still at the scene checking to make sure there were not any hot spots before 2 p.m.

Nobody was injured. Two residents were displaced, and the fire marshal was investigating the cause.
