Howard Co. Schools Alter Monday Schedule Due To Incoming Storms

Forecasters are predicting damaging thunderstorms, hail, potential tornadoes, prompting school officials to alter Monday's schedule.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — All Howard County public schools will close three hours early Monday due to forecasted severe weather with a chance of damage winds and the risk of tornados.

Students will be dismissed using the unscheduled early closings departure method provided by parents/guardians in Family File.

All afternoon and evening activities involving HCPSS students and staff are canceled.

All field trips have been canceled for Monday.

All afternoon childcare programs sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks are canceled.

All afternoon sessions of half-day, pre-kindergarten and RECC are canceled for Monday.

There will be no afternoon ARL classes and those students instead will report to their home school.

All community-sponsored programs in HCPSS buildings are canceled.

If Howard Community College is open as scheduled, HCPSS students who are enrolled at HCC and cannot attend due to a lack of transportation should notify their professors immediately using their MyHCC email or Canvas.

Forecasters are predicting that the area will see damaging thunderstorms, hail, potential tornadoes and wind gusts of up to 75 mph.

"Meteorologists are sounding the alarm for a widespread multiday severe risk stretching across the central and eastern United States from Sunday afternoon into Monday," Accuweather said. "Over a dozen states will be at risk for severe thunderstorms."
