Howard County Closings For Good Friday And Easter 2018

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Most Marylanders won't get the day off on Friday, but the convergence of two religious holidays might mean a change in your routine. That's because Friday, March 30, is both Good Friday, a Christian holiday marking Jesus' crucifixion; and the first day of Passover, the eight-day Jewish festival marking the Israelites' exodus from Egypt.

Good Friday isn't as widely observed as federal and state holidays, meaning most people will go to work like any other day. In Maryland, the state does not observe it, so state offices are open.

Howard County students will be off — schools are closed from March 30 through April 3 for spring break.

Some 27 percent of workplaces closed their offices on Good Friday last year, while 67 percent remained open and 6 percent closed early, according to the Society for Human Resource Management.

Howard County public schools are closed until Tuesday, April 3, for spring break; students will return Wednesday, April 4.
