Howard County Firefighter Posthumously Promoted To Lieutenant

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The firefighter killed battling a massive fire in Clarksville this week has been promoted posthumously to the rank of lieutenant. Nathan Eric Flynn was killed July 23 fighting a seven-alarm fire in Clarksville.
The 34-year-old firefighter, assigned to the Rivers Park fire station on Old Columbia Road, was the first career firefighter to die in the line of duty in the history of the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
His promotion to lieutenant is effective July 23, 2018.

Flynn was described as a "heck of a firefighter" by Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services Deputy Chief William Anuszewski. "He loved the fire service."

"He loved the fire service," Anuszewski said. "He loved his family, both his fire department family and his home family."
A donation page has been set up for his family through GoFundMe. There is also a memorial site at Station 10 at 10155 Old Columbia Road in Columbia, where flowers can be placed.
“Our job now is to make sure that for his family, our brother is laid to rest with dignity," International Association of Firefighters Local 2000 President Rich Ruehl said. “It’s also our job to take care of his family, forever. They’re ours now, and they always will be.”
