Howard County police are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle collision in Laurel on Monday afternoon in which one person was killed.

At approximately 2:25 p.m., a 2005 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on Route 1 approaching Whiskey Bottom Road when it struck from behind a 2001 Toyota Sequoia stopped at the red light. The driver and sole occupant of the Corolla, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Sequoia was transported to Laurel Regional Hospital with minor injuries. The identity of the deceased victim will be released once next of kin has been notified.

Two other vehicles were struck in the chain reaction from the initial collision. No one in those vehicles was injured. 

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Route 1 in the area of Whiskey Bottom Road was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours.
