Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred overnight in Columbia.

Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred overnight in Columbia.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., a 2016 Nissan Altima was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of Route 175 just east of Tamar Drive when it collided with a 2018 Jeep Renegade traveling east.

The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan, Alejandro Herrera Guzman, 29, of Laurel, was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival.

The driver and a passenger in the Jeep were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. The eastbound lanes of Route 175 at Tamar Drive were closed for approximately three hours overnight.
