Howard County Invites Students to Enter Coloring Book Contest

From Howard County: Howard County’s Recycling Division invites Howard County students, grades 3rd, 4th and 5th, to participate in the Division’s Recycling Coloring Book Contest. The top 13 entries will be featured in a coloring book, with the best in show appearing on the cover.

The contest encourages students to promote the idea of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and demonstrate awareness and appreciation for the environment by expressing their ideas through art. Drawings will be judged on creativity and originality.

To be eligible for the contest, students must attend a school in Howard County and be in either 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Entries must be submitted using black marker or ink on white, unlined 8 ½” x 11” paper. All designs should be free of color and should feature at least one of the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) being practiced. The student’s name, address, grade and school must be included on the back of the completed drawing. Entry forms are available online. All completed entries must be postmarked, hand-delivered or emailed by 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 17 to: Recycling Coloring Book Contest, c/o Gina Bonomo, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 514, Columbia, MD 21046, or emailed to gbonomo@howardcountymd.gov.

Contest winners will be recognized at the County’s 10th annual GreenFest on Saturday, April 22 at Howard Community College, where the coloring book will be available for distribution for the first time. Additional copies will be available for free while supplies last at the offices of Bureau of Environmental Services, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 514 in Columbia and will also be offered at select public events scheduled throughout the year in the County.
