UPDATED: I-95 Congested In Howard County After Rescue, Medevac

Traffic was heavier than usual on Interstate 95 Friday near Laurel due to a crash.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD (UPDATED 6 p.m.) — All lanes of Interstate 95 north were temporarily closed Friday near the exit for MD 216 due to a crash involving entrapment, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. There were major delays as a result of the lane closures.

The two-vehicle crash occurred on I-95 north before the exit for MD 216/Scaggsville Road at approximately 4:52 p.m., according to transportation authorities.

Fire and rescue authorities said a medevac was on the way and advised drivers to anticipate I-95 north may be closed for 40 to 60 minutes.

The collision reportedly involved a vehicle that crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer.

According to WBAL, traffic was backed up to I-495 after 5 p.m.

Below, vehicles were at a standstill on I-95 in the area of MD 198 shortly after 5:45 p.m.

The medevac landed and had taken off from the crash scene by 5:35 p.m.

One right lane on I-95 north had reopened as of 5:45 p.m., transportation officials reported.
