Iota Lambda Omega Takes ASCEND to National Museum
Howard High School ASCEND participants tour the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

On January 23, 2017, Iota Lambda Omega Chapter in Howard County, Maryland treated the Howard High School ASCEND participants to a day touring of the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. The museum provides an “opportunity to showcase and honor the work of all institutions and individuals preserving, honoring and sharing the many stories of African American and African Diaspora people and their contributions to the American story.”
The 33 students were prepped before the tour about the significance of this newest and most popular museum in the nation’s capital that opened in September, 2016. They are eager to return to see and learn more. Iota Lambda Omega currently sponsors ASCEND for Howard High School students in Ellicott City Maryland as well as a regional ASCEND program attended by students from several area high schools. Accompanying the students were Sorors Joyce Hamilton Berry, Jean West Lewis, Joyce Stanley and Tamara Jones.
