Jessup Man Sentenced To 13 Years In Prison For Assault

Alhaji Samura, 34, assaulted his girlfriend a second time in 2019 and violated a no-contact order put in place after a previous assault.

JESSUP, MD — A 34-year-old man from Jessup has been sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of second-degree assault involving his girlfriend that happened last year after he was ordered by the court not to have contact with her, which stemmed from a previous assault incident.

In 2018, Alhaji Samura pleaded guilty to second-degree assault involving his girlfriend at the time. He was ordered not to have contact with her. In that previous case, she was 19 weeks pregnant when he pushed her onto a bed and jumped on her stomach. Then he straddled her and punched her in the face, followed by using his forearm to push down on her neck.

Samura asked his then girlfriend to bring him medication at his home in January 2019. While there, they began to argue. He grabbed her by the neck, pulled her inside the house and pushed her into the basement. Then he slammed her on the ground and placed her in a choke hold, causing her to lose consciousness. He also pounded on her chest.
