Jessup Man Wins $50K From Powerball

The man missed winning the jackpot by one number, because he had the number two instead of 44.

JESSUP, MD — A dedicated 54-year-old lotto player from Jessup couldn't believe his luck. The $10 quick-pick Powerball ticket he bought the day before at a 7-Eleven in Columbia netted him $50,000.

“I scanned it in at the gas station 10 times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things,” said the father of one. “I still don’t know which numbers won!”

He missed winning the jackpot by one number, because he had the number two instead of the 44. Hours after he discovered his good fortune, the information technology professional went to Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim his prize.

While the man has played lotto games in the past, he had never won anything this big, he said. He plans to pay bills with the windfall and keep playing his favorite Lottery games. The Howard County resident was one of two $50,000 winners in Maryland in the Jan. 22 Powerball drawing and one of eight $50,000 Powerball winners in the state so far in 2020.
