Jessup Prison Fire Linked to Radio in Inmate's Cell, Officials Say
The fire caused $2,000 in damage at the Jessup jail, the Office of the State Fire Marshal reported.

JESSUP, MD — A fire that broke out at an inmate's cell at the Jessup Correctional Institution started with a radio, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
A corrections officer noticed the blaze at the men's detention center in the 7800 block of House of Correction Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, the fire marshal reported.
Approximately 30 firefighters from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the blaze, and within five minutes, officials said the fire was contained.

The blaze was deemed accidental, and nobody was injured, according to the fire marshal.
An electrical failure of the radio caused the fire, which spread to items in the cell, the fire marshal reported.

Authorities said there was approximately $2,000 in damage, which was contained to the single cell where the fire began.
