COLUMBIA, MD — Authorities are investigating a collision involving a police vehicle that resulted in the death of a juvenile driver, according to officials.
The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General is handling the probe of the crash, which occurred Saturday in Columbia, authorities said.
A Howard County officer in an unmarked cruiser was conducting traffic enforcement shortly before 2 a.m. on Route 29 near Johns Hopkins Road when he saw a Honda sedan speeding north and followed the car, according to authorities.

The Honda exited onto eastbound Route 32, and the officer caught up, activating his emergency equipment and attempting to stop the car, authorities said, adding the Honda instead tried to get on the exit ramp to Broken Land Parkway, where it crashed into a wooded area and caught fire.
