Last Day Of School Set For HCPSS In 2019
After it exceeded the allotted inclement weather days, the Howard County Public School System has amended its school calendar.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The final day of school has been set for students in the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS). State officials granted a request by the school system for a one-day waiver.
By law, schools in Maryland must be in session 180 days each year. An executive order mandates that schools start no earlier than the day after Labor Day and end no later than June 15. School systems may apply for waivers if they would like to be granted an exception.
After using all four days and one additional day that it had allocated for inclement weather, HCPSS requested the waiver. Since the Maryland State Department of Education approved HCPSS’ request for a waiver of one day, the last day of school for students will be Friday, June 21.
