Little Patuxent Parkway Lanes to Close for Bikers, Pedestrians on Saturday

Superheroes, bike demonstrations, inflatable maze, nature walk are among activities available at Saturday's Open Streets event in Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — One lane from each side of the Little Patuxent Parkway loop will be closed for several hours Saturday for people-powered transportation such as biking and walking during the annual Open Streets Howard County event.

Open Streets Howard County shows citizens how better street design can make getting around easier and safer. More than 1,000 people attended the inaugural Open Streets initiative in 2015, according to the Horizon Foundation, which sponsors the event.

Opening ceremonies will commence at 10 a.m., with Girls on the Run of Central Maryland kicking off the event with a 1.5-mile fun run around the Little Patuxent Parkway Loop. This year, the Downtown Columbia Trail has been added to the route.
