MakingChange Honored at Getting Ahead Gala

Workshops cited for helping improve financial resources

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman and the Department of Citizen Services recently honored graduates and supporters at the 1st annual Getting Ahead Awards Gala, and MakingChange was one of the honorees.

MakingChange is a local nonprofit that empowers individuals and families to achieve financial stability through programs and services

Getting Ahead is an initiative of the Board to Promote Self-Sufficiency and is designed to change the culture of poverty by helping service providers examine how they treat people in poverty and by also helping people in poverty to improve their personal resources to “get ahead.” MakingChange provides workshops for Getting Ahead participants and was commended for its “commitment, dedication and support” to the program.

Attendees have offered their own enthusiastic endorsement. “I love the way he broke things down to my understanding,” one woman said of MakingChange’s workshop leader.

The Getting Ahead Awards Gala included a presentation to MakingChange.Participating in the event were (from l.) MakingChange Executive Director Mike Couch, VITA Site Coordinator Michelle Moore and Financial Education Coordinator Roy Yenoli.
