Nature Lovers Explore Downtown Columbia's Lakefront
Bird watchers, environmentalists and others took a walk around Lake Kittamaqundi.

Local author Ned Tillman and “birdologist” Elaine Pardoe led bird watchers, environmentalists, nature lovers and others on a walk around Lake Kittamaqundi in Downtown Columbia on Oct. 25. Sponsored by the Town Center Community Association, the walk was designed to reveal “the wonders of nature right here in our backyard.”
Tillman, the author of “Saving the Places We Love: Paths to Environmental Stewardship,” shared stories about the plant and animal life around our local lakes, while Pardoe pointed out bird species to the 30 participants. Waterfowl and turtles were sighted. Local photographer Dylan Singleton joined the group as they enjoyed the autumn weather and colors.
