1. Trio Ousts Howard Co. Appeals Board Chair: Report (patch.com) — Howard County residents, including those in Columbia, may see changes in how local land-use and zoning appeals are handled after three council members abruptly voted to remove Board of Appeals chair Gene Ryan. The majority bloc cited an investigation into his conduct, while two other council members say they were shut out of the closed-door meeting. Ryan disputes the process and plans to challenge his ouster, potentially extending the political tension.

The Beths collaborate with Nik Brinkman on 'Metal' remix (northerntransmissions.com) — Columbia residents will get a chance to see indie band The Beths when they play the All Things Go festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion on September 26. The show is part of a monthlong U.S. tour featuring fan-request setlists and festival stops across the country, with one of the few Maryland appearances happening right in town.

Black Sabbath, Pearl Jam, Anthrax Members & 'Jack Sabbath' Among Latest Additions To Tom Morello's 'Power To The People' Festival (theprp.com) — Columbia music fans can look forward to Tom Morello's Power to the People festival hitting Merriweather Post Pavilion on October 3, with a stacked lineup including Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Public Enemy, and Jack Black's "Jack Sabbath." Billed as a non-partisan celebration of peace and solidarity, the event will blend big-name rock, hip-hop, and activist-minded performances in one huge local show.
   

4. Solution Architect Job Opportunity in Columbia, MD (news-usa.today) — A new Solution Architect position has opened at UL's Columbia offices, directly tied to Howard County's growing tech and research corridor. The role will guide critical data and cloud systems that support global safety science work, competing with nearby defense and cybersecurity employers along the Route 1 and Baltimore–Washington tech beltway.
