Phone, Internet Lines Cut on Dobbin Road: Columbia Crime

Police issue warning about the proper way to leave a vehicle, suspected burglar caught twice in Columbia and more crime reports from HCPD.

COLUMBIA, MD — After two vehicles were stolen in Columbia over the weekend, authorities are reminding drivers to lock their cars, homes and garages. If people do choose to leave a vehicle unlocked, they should be sure to take out the garage door opener and any keys. A green Toyota Corolla was stolen from the 11500 block of Little Patuxent Parkway at 8:20 a.m. on Sept. 18. It was left unlocked with the spare key inside, police said. The vehicle was ultimately recovered in Baltimore County. Two days prior, a motorcycle was taken that has not been found. The 2007 Yamaha R6 was reported stolen from the 8800 block of Flowerstock Row at 8:10 a.m. on Sept. 16. It had a DC plate that said "MR1659."

Phone and internet cables leading to a business in the 6400 block of Dobbin Center Way were severed in the early morning on Sept. 16. The suspect did not try to get into the business, and nothing was stolen.

Someone pried open the door to an apartment in the 5900 block of Watch Chain Way and stole various items. The burglary was reported at 1:42 p.m. on Sept. 16. Police arrested a 47-year-old man from Washington, D.C., near the scene of the crime and charged him with first, third and fourth-degree burglary and theft. Previously, the suspect (Kevin Richard Smith of NW 14th Street) had been charged in another recent burglary. Police said Smith was charged in connection with a Sept. 8 break-in where he allegedly kicked in the door to a residence in the 8300 block of Tamar Drive and took electronics.
