Pregnant Woman Dies After Being Shot In Columbia: Police
Doctors delivered the woman's baby at 28 weeks' gestation. The newborn is listed in critical condition as of Saturday.
COLUMBIA, MD — A pregnant woman died after being shot Friday night while in a home located in the 6600 block of Dovecote Drive. The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Police were called to the home and learned that multiple shots had been fired into the home from outside. The pregnant woman, Rabiah Ahmad, 30, was staying at the residence.
Ahmad was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she later died. Ahmad was 28 weeks pregnant and doctors delivered the baby who was listed in critical condition as of Saturday. No one else was injured in the incident.
According to the Howard County Police Department, officers are investigating the incident to see if someone in the home may have been a target, since several people live there. Police are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that can assist in solving the case. They also are urging residents in the area to check their doorbell or security cameras for any activity that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Anyone who may have seen or heard something in the area or has any other information is urged to contact police at 410-313-STOP or CPDCrimeTips@howardcountymd.gov.
