Registration Now Open for 2017 Journey Leadership Program for Howard County Middle School Girls
Maryland Leadership Workshops to hold informational sessions on February 23 and 25 at Hammond High School

Maryland Leadership Workshops, a division of Leadership Maryland, announces that registration is now open for its 2017 Journey program for Howard County middle school girls. The program will be held July 9-15, 2017 at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. Female students residing in Howard County and entering grades 8 or 9 in Fall 2017 are eligible to apply.
At this unique program, each student identifies her own leadership skills, strengths, and weaknesses in a supportive and fun environment, which fosters increased self-esteem and confidence. Journey graduates are equipped with leadership skills, tools, and motivation to enhance their schools and communities.
This program is tailored to meet the needs and experiences of girls in middle and high school, and includes:

- Workshops focusing on topics such as empowerment and motivation, communication, decision making skills, building healthy relationships, self-awareness, goal setting, and conflict resolution;
- Small and large group projects for girls to apply and get feedback on their leadership and interpersonal skills;
- One-on-one interactions between staff and girls to address specific areas of growth for the individual and identify an action plan for post-site implementation;
- Recreational activities such as team building games and activities, including a Confidence Course.
Those interested in learning more about Journey are invited to attend two free informational sessions on Thursday, February 23 from 6:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. and Saturday, February 25 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Hammond High School (8800 Guilford Rd, Columbia, MD 21046) in the Media Center.
