Restaurant, Bar Coming To One Merriweather Building

The office building where MedStar is headquartered will have a mid-Atlantic restaurant and speakeasy-style lounge later this year.

COLUMBIA, MD — A restaurant and bar are coming to Columbia, officials announced Tuesday. A door will connect the two establishments, which will be located in the ground floor of One Merriweather.

The restaurant — Cured — will feature mid-Atlantic cuisine accompanied by craft beers and cocktails. It will span more than 4,000 square feet on the ground floor of One Merriweather, an office building that is home to MedStar Health, and contain 125 seats.

In addition, a cocktail lounge called 18th & 21st will offer an intimate speakeasy-type atmosphere. The bar is named after the Constitutional Amendments that ratified and repealed prohibition.

The 1,900-square-foot lounge will be visible through an unmarked door in the back of Cured restaurant and offer live music six days a week. There will be food as well, featuring New American cuisine in the 38-seat restaurant that also has a larger bar area.

Restaurateur Steve Wecker, who co-owns Iron Bridge Wine Co. in Columbia and Mutiny Pirate Bar & Island Grille in Glen Burnie, will be heading up the businesses.

“Columbia has always been a special place and has been recognized for its extraordinary quality of life. With Cured and 18th & 21st, we are adding two more reasons why this is a great place to live, work and play while also seeking to emulate the neighborhood feel we have achieved with Iron Bridge and Mutiny," Wecker said in a statement. "It is exciting to join with others in transforming the center of Columbia into a real downtown."

Cured and 18th & 21st are expected to open this winter at One Merriweather, located at the corner of Broken Land and Little Patuxent parkways in Columbia.
