Husband Attacked Wife Because She Didn't Have Dinner Ready: Cops

The woman said her husband had been physical with the past, but she never reported the abuse to authorities, according to a police report.

RYDAL, GA — A Bartow County man was arrested earlier this week on charges he attacked his wife because she did not have dinner ready when he arrived home. Joshua Melvin Jay Tims, 44, was arrested June 3 and charged with simple battery, battery and two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree, jail records show.

A deputy with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a call around 9:33 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The deputy met with the victim, who said she arrived home around 7:45 p.m. and her husband was "angry with her for not having his dinner cooked."

Tims allegedly yelled at his wife, left the house and returned to the residence. The woman said when Tims returned, he opened the refrigerator and dumped the contents of a prepared salad onto the kitchen floor.

The victim said she tried leave, but Tims allegedly grabbed her, threw her body over his knees and "told her to eat the food off of the floor."

"He took the back of her head and she thought he was going to force her, so she started eating the food off of the floor," the report notes.

According to the report, the husband pushed the woman against the refrigerator, grabbed her by the neck and told her to never "tell me you're leaving again." A juvenile at the home walked into the kitchen and saw Tims holding his wife against the refrigerator.

In a confrontation with the juvenile, Tims grabbed a belt and allegedly told the child to "pull down his pants" because he believed he needed a spanking. Tims then told his wife and the two children to leave and the three left the home. The victim told police she initially drove to the Adairsville Police Department, but went to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office to make a report.

"Joshua had been physical with her in the past year but she never reported it," the report goes on to state. When the deputy confronted Tims, he did not have anything to say about the allegations. Tims was booked into the Bartow County Jail at 11:15 p.m. Sunday on the misdemeanor charges and posted a $6,500 bail.
