HCPSS Makes Decision For After-School, Evening Activities
The Howard County Public School System has altered plans for after-school activities on Tuesday.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — After-school and community-sponsored events in the Howard County Public School System have been canceled for Tuesday, Feb. 12. This includes athletic practices and games.
Child care programs that are sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Department of Recreation & Parks in Howard County public schools are canceled for Tuesday afternoon.
"Downed trees and loss of power in many schools" was the reason Howard County Public School System officials provided for the cancellations.

"Unless the school is otherwise notified, students scheduled for after-school activities will be sent home in the way identified for typical school days (by bus, car, or walking)," officials said.

The Howard County Board of Education meeting has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14.
Northwestern Howard County is under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. Tuesday because of ice; this warning is issued when travel is nearly impossible or extremely dangerous.
The rest of Howard County is under a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. Tuesday due to freezing rain. Travel may be hazardous due to slippery roads and the potential for ice accumulation.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Howard County will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Officials made the announcement Tuesday morning.
School buses will run on a two-hour delay Tuesday, according to the announcement.
Morning prekindergarten and RECC programs are canceled, officials reported.
Morning child care programs in schools that are sponsored by the Columbia Association and Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will be delayed two hours.
Central office will open on time.

The Howard County Public School System has used up all four of the inclement weather days it had built into its calendar, officials reported on Monday, Feb. 11, one of the days that schools were closed.
Up to an inch of snow fell in Howard County on Monday, based on preliminary reports from the National Weather Service.
