School Bus Driver Cited in HoCo Crash: Police

One person was taken to shock trauma after bus crashed into oncoming traffic, police said.

A school bus driver was cited after police say her bus crashed into a Suburban in western Howard County Friday morning, sending the teenage driver of the SUV to the hospital.

The bus was on its way to Folly Quarter Middle School at 7:03 a.m. when the crash occurred on Triadelphia Mill Road west of Viburnum Drive, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Preliminary investigation shows the eastbound bus crossed the center of the road into westbound traffic, where it hit the SUV, police reported.

The 17-year-old driver of the Suburban was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where police said she was listed in stable condition.

The five students and driver on the bus were uninjured, and the two 15-year-old passengers in the Suburban were also unharmed, police reported.

The teens in the Suburban were on their way to Glenelg High School at the time of the crash, according to Mary Phelan, spokeswoman for the Howard County Police Department.

Bus driver Elizabeth Farinholt, 52, of Pasadena, was cited for failure to control speed to avoid a collision and failure to drive right of center, according to police.

Triadelphia Mill Road was closed between the Big Branch boat ramp and Viburnum Drive while authorities investigated the crash. The road reopened at approximately 10 a.m., according to police.

Part of Triadelphia Mill Road in Dayton was closed for several hours Friday morning due to a crash involving a school bus, according to the Howard County Police Department.

According to WBAL, a school bus with children aboard and an SUV collidedat approximately 7 a.m., trapping the SUV driver, who was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Police said no students were injured.
