Shopper Assaults Employee With Cart: HoCo Police Roundup

Cash, change, a wallet, tires, an E-ZPass and more items were stolen from vehicles and homes across Howard County this past week.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The following incidents occurred across Howard County July 13-21 as reported July 21 per the Howard County Police Department.

July 13

Robbery
Columbia, 21046: BJ’s Wholesale Club, 9000 block of Snowden River Parkway, July 11 2:24 p.m. An employee reported that a male suspect pushed a shopping cart into her and stole merchandise before fleeing. No one was injured. The investigation is ongoing. SUSPECT: unknown race male, approximately 30-40 years old, wearing a black shirt, no further description.
Commercial burglary
Columbia, 21044: Elite Chiropractic and Sport, 10600 block of Little Patuxent Parkway, July 11 12:11
p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered the business and stole cash. The suspect(s) entered another business suite in the office building but nothing was reported stolen.
Jessup, 20794: Andrews Equipment, 8400 block of Washington Boulevard, July 12 6:53 p.m.
Unknown suspect(s) entered the property of the business by climbing a fence. Nothing was reported stolen.
Residential burglary
Glenelg, 21737: 13800 block of Burntwoods Road, June 17-July 11 Unknown suspect(s) attempted to enter the residence by breaking a door and window. No entry was made.
Elkridge, 21075: 5600 block of Furnace Avenue, July 12 1:15-2:20 p.m. Unknown suspect(s) entered an open garage and stole sneakers.

July 14

Robbery
Elkridge, 21075: Best Buy, 8200 block of Gateway Overlook Drive, July 13 5:44 p.m. Two employees reported that two male suspects with their faces partially covered stole two cell phones and exited the store. When the employees confronted them, the suspects assaulted them and one suspect implied a weapon before fleeing. No one was injured. The investigation is ongoing. SUSPECTS: two black males, one wearing a black hoodie, the other wearing a pink hoodie.

Columbia, 21045: 7100 block of Minstrel Way, July 15 11:49 p.m. Police responded for a report of a stolen Chevrolet van. Police located the vehicle nearby and arrested a suspect. ARRESTED: juvenile male, 16, of Columbia, charged with motor vehicle theft.

July 17
ARREST: Commercial burglary update - Police have made an arrest in six commercial burglaries since October 2019 at Waverly Woods Golf Course in the 2100 block of Warwick Way in Marriottsville. In each burglary, the suspect broke into the clubhouse and stole alcohol. Through investigation, police identified the suspect and arrested him. ARRESTED: juvenile male, 17, of Woodstock, charged with burglary and theft
Assault
Columbia, 21046: 7400 block of Setting Sun Way, July 16 11 p.m. Two adult victims reported that they were in a vehicle when an acquaintance approached them, attempted to open the door, and threatened them. The victims then reported that they drove off and the suspect shot at the vehicle, striking it. No one was injured. Police responded, located the suspect nearby, and arrested him after a short vehicle pursuit. ARRESTED: Isaac Olugbemi, 29, of Meadowmist Way in Odenton, charged with assault and destruction of property

Jessup, 20794: 7800 block of Pocomoke Avenue, July 16 10:02 a.m. An adult female victim reported that a male suspect approached her vehicle and exposed himself before fleeing.

Police located a vehicle reported stolen and attempted to stop it. After a short vehicle pursuit, the vehicle stopped and the driver was arrested. ARRESTED: Josue Estrada, 19, of Pioneer Drive in Severn, charged with motor vehicle theft and related charges.
