Smoke Cleared From Clarksville Elementary School: Officials

The students were cleared to re-enter the building after a brief evacuation in Clarksville on Friday, officials reported.

CLARKSVILLE, MD — A school in Clarksville was evacuated Friday for about an hour due to smoke, according to authorities. First responders deemed the building clear for re-entry at 1 p.m.

Smoke had been coming from an HVAC unit at a classroom in Clarksville Elementary at 11:50 a.m., school officials said.

As a result, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services was called to the campus in the 1200 block of Clarksville Pike.

Once fire officials deemed the building safe for the return of students and staff, administrators said lunches were being served and the school was on schedule to dismiss as usual Friday afternoon.
